Our 7 Days Rwanda Safari takes you to visit Nyungwe Forest National Park in South West of Rwanda with over 10000sq.km in size. Nyungwe Forest is renowned for its large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids and over 300 bird species. Also visit Volcanoes National Park in the north of Rwanda where about 300 mountain gorillas live. Each of the 10 Gorilla groups in Rwanda allows up to 8 participants per day. You can track gorillas, climb the Visoke volcano, track the golden monkeys or visit the Karisoke Research Centre, which Dian Fossey the famous primatologist set up, or visit local villages. 7 Days Rwanda Safari

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Kigali Airport

Upon your arrival at Kanombe (Kigali) airport, you will be received by a Verdant Safaris company representative, who will brief you on the safari itinerary and then transfer you to Kigali City and to a lodge already booked for you for lunch, dinner and overnight stay. Depending on your arrival time, you will be taken a tour of Kigali City in the afternoon. Accommodation Options: Kigali Serena Hotel (High End), Hotel Chez Lando (Mid Range), Okapi Hotel (Budget). Meal Plan: (Lunch, Dinner).

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After your early morning breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, make stops at places of interest including local markets, the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. You will have lunch in Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. Drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest

Have breakfast and head into the forest to track chimpanzees and other primates. The park also has a variety of bird species which include; the Rwenzori turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Return to Kigali or pass via Gisenyi to Ruhengeri. Drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known. Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After your early morning breakfast, you will transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for briefing from the park rangers and to be allocated a tracking group. Thereafter, you will enter the park to track gorillas. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills and swamps can be tough, arduous and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours in the forest. But coming face to face with the great primates is well worth the effort. Accommodation Options: Gorilla Nest Lodge (High End), Le’ Bambou Gorilla Lodge (Mid Range), Kinigi Guest House (Budget). Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park – Return to Kigali

You will have an early morning breakfast and head into the park to track golden moneys. This is a whole different experience compared to tracking mountain gorillas. Return to the lodge for lunch and embark on a return journey to Kigali in the afternoon. Accommodation Options: Kigali Serena Hotel (High End), Hotel Chez Lando (Mid Range), Okapi Hotel (Budget). DAY 7: Kigali City Tour – Kigali Airport – Departure

You will have an early morning breakfast and depending on the time of your departure flight, you will be taken on a tour of Kigali City to explore the places you may have missed on the first day. You will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, buy traditional crafts as souvenirs to take back home and later you will be transferred to Kigali Airport in time for your departure flight.
